barefoot bodywork
the practitioner uses their foot to apply methodical, broad, firm strokes, utilizing a silk strap wrapped around her body to maintain balance, while the standing foot remains planted on either the table or the floor. the client is undressed for this modality and covered/tightly draped with a sheet.
*barefoot bodywork is the least intimate modality as the therapist uses her foot to deliver the strokes, creating more distance between them and the client’s body.
therapeutic massage
therapeutic massage is an integrated modality that draws on all the therapist's learned skills to deliver a unique massage, tailored the client's specific needs. the primary modality used is myofascial release, characterized by slow & intentional strokes. the client disrobes for this modality and is covered & tightly draped with a sheet.
NOTE: deep tissue work is used sparingly, cautiously, and appropriately.
*as the therapist uses mostly their hands and forearms to deliver this type of massage, it is only mildly intimate. the therapist will be mostly at arms length from the client at all times.
prenatal massage
this massage is designed for someone in their 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy (1st trimester on a case-by-case basis). the pregnant person lies on their back in an elevated position for the first half of the massage and will transition to a side-lying position for the second half, supported by various pillows and bolsters.
add-on services
the following are available at no extra cost.
peppermint scalp & sinus
This invigorating scalp massage with peppermint essential oil can be added onto the beginning or end of your therapeutic session. Opens up the sinuses and calms the nervous system.
gua sha/scraping
This technique uses a smooth, flat tool to scrape the skin in order to promote blood flow and loosen superficial connective tissue. This is non-painful targeted work on area of your choice. I typically use Thai I Din Balm—made from prai, eucalyptus mental, camphor, turmeric, but it can be used with regular massage oil as well.
cupping
Cupping is a treatment using suction that can help to treat deeper pain within muscle and connective tissue, release adhesions, improve stagnated blood flow, and help to smooth scar tissue. Some clients report a deep sense of relaxation and overall feeling of less tension in the tissue treated. NOTE: this treatment can leave non-painful marks on the skin lasting 2-14 days.
